Getting Rid of Mold on Your Windows

First, make sure you are wearing protective gear such as gloves and a face mask to keep mold off your skin and out of your airways. Don’t forget to open your window when getting rid of the mold for fresh air. By using a spray bottle, dampen your window casings with water. This prevents the mold spores from spreading when you remove them. 

Next, mix a few drops of dish detergent with some warm water. You will use this mixture to clean mold off the surface of the window casings with paper towels. The discarded paper towels should be sealed in a plastic bag afterward. If the mold is not removed from the window casings, you may want to use a plastic scraper to loosen and remove it. 

After that, mix 1/4 to 1/2 cup bleach in a gallon of water. Use a clean rag to scrub the window casings with this mixture. Leave the bleach to sit on the window casings for 15 minutes to kill any mold spores that remain. Finally, rinse the window casings with clean water. Be sure that the window casings are thoroughly dried off. You can set up a window fan or hairdryer to help speed the drying process. 

Preventive Measures To Consider

Mold thrives in moist conditions. Thus, you may want to purchase replacement windows that can be sealed tightly to avoid chances of mold buildup. You should also consider reducing the amount of condensation on your window. You can do this by maintaining proper airflow in your home by keeping your ceiling vents open at all times. 

The bedroom and bathroom are also two of the most common places for mold growth. To avoid attracting mold indoors, you should regularly clean your home’s interior. Don’t forget to dust and vacuum these areas regularly.
