5 Tips to Control Humidity in the Kitchen

Humidity levels tend to increase in the summer. This can lead to discomfort, particularly if your home isn’t properly ventilated.

In this post, your leading provider of patio doors, Renewal by Andersen® of Central Pennsylvania, discusses how to control humidity levels in the kitchen, which is one of the most moisture-prone areas of the home.

1. Turn on the Ceiling Fan or Exhaust Fan – Turn on your ceiling fan while cooking to circulate air and reduce humidity in the room. Don’t forget to use the exhaust fan while cooking, running the dishwasher or hand-washing the dishes. This will reduce the heat and moisture in the kitchen, which helps control humidity.

2. Use a Dehumidifier – Keep a dehumidifier running on extra hot and humid days. You can turn it on while cooking or using the dishwasher if the humidity levels aren’t that bad.

3. Properly Install Doors and Windows – Make sure that your doors and windows are properly installed. For quality installation of sliding contemporary doors and windows, you can count on Renewal by Andersen of Central Pennsylvania.

4. Open Your Windows – When possible, open windows in the busy areas of your home like the kitchen. Even breathing can contribute to the humidity level of the room. Dry clothes outside if you can. If this is not possible, open doors and windows in the room where the clothes are drying.

5. Close the Doors – Close the door while cooking to keep steam from reaching the other rooms. Leave your exhaust fan running even after you’re done cooking to clear the air.
