Sliding windows (also known as gliding windows) open by sliding side to side.
They work best for large, long, horizontal window openings.
Sliding windows have the largest glass area of any “openable” window. The replacement window with the maximum glass area is the picture window. The picture window cannot be opened, so many people choose to add a combination window for ventilation.
If you have a large window opening and want to be able to open the window, sliding windows will be perfect for you.
Because open sliding windows do not protrude, they make a great choice for windows next to where people walk and congregate, such as:
You can have a large, open window without worrying about your window pane taking up deck or sidewalk space.
Sliding windows, by nature of their size, let in a lot of natural light. We usually install sliding windows in “social spaces” within the home (like dining rooms and living rooms), to let homeowners take advantage of the added sunlight.
Both sides of Renewal by Anderson sliding windows slide open, allowing you to open 50% of the window’s width a variety of ways. The tracks on which the windows slide are smooth and easy-to-maintain.
The windows also lift out easily for cleaning from inside. Low-E4® glass provides added streak and water spot resistance.
If you have small children, sliding windows are a safer alternative to old top-and-bottom traditional windows. Sliding windows cannot accidentally slam down like some old windows can.
