FAQs About Fibrex® Windows

Renewal by Andersen® of Central Pennsylvania is dedicated to offering high-quality replacement windows and doors for your home. Our proprietary Fibrex® composite frames are part of what makes us stand apart from the competition. In this post, we share a quick FAQ on the benefits of installing windows with Fibrex frames:

1. What Is Fibrex?

Fibrex is a unique wood-fiber-and-thermoplastic-polymer hybrid that combines the best of both wood and vinyl: the former’s endurance and the latter’s low-maintenance nature. This formula offers exceptional features including resistance to bowing, cracking and decay, making it ideal for windows and doors.

2. What Are the Benefits of Installing Fibrex Windows?

Fibrex windows resist blistering, peeling, cracking and decay. They also resist thermal expansion caused by temperature fluctuations. Other window frame materials expand and contract with temperature changes, causing window seal degradation. Fibrex does not have this weakness, making it a more durable long-term option.

3. How Long Do Fibrex Windows Usually Last?

Renewal by Andersen removed 10, 20-year-old Fibrex windows from clients’ houses to test their durability. Despite two decades of use, the windows were still in good working order, with no damage to the weatherstripping and no issues with the opening mechanisms.

4. How Energy-Efficient Are Fibrex Windows?

If you live in a mild environment, investing in energy-efficient windows makes financial and practical sense. According to the Department of Energy, heat gain and loss through windows account for around 25%-30% of household heating and cooling costs.

5. Is Fibrex Available in All Andersen Products?

Fibrex’s unique material combination allows it to be formed into any door or window style. Unlike fiberglass, our Fibrex material enables curved and other bespoke window styles, as well as standard styles like double hung windows.

Here’s a tip: if you want to improve the energy efficiency of your Fibrex windows, go for Low-emissivity (low-E) glass, which reduces the amount of ultraviolet radiation and heat that enters your home. We provide a variety of energy-efficient solutions, including our High-Performance Low-E4® Sun Glass, which is 56% and 47% more energy-efficient in summer and winter, respectively, than traditional dual-pane windows.

Renewal by Andersen of Central Pennsylvania combines cutting-edge technology, competent window and door installation, unique design combinations and a customized approach. After 30 years of creating and fine-tuning our innovative Fibrex® material, our windows are definitely in a class of their own.
