Why Do Windows Warp?

Do your windows look warped or deformed? Window warping usually happens in vinyl and wood windows, and it can be due to various factors.

Read on as a trusted replacement windows provider lists some common reasons why windows warp and what you can do about it.

What Causes Windows to Warp?

Moisture: Moisture is the biggest cause of wood and vinyl window warping. Once moisture infiltrates the material, it will remain inside and cause the window to rot and warp.

Temperature: Excessive heat and cold cause vinyl and wood to expand and contract. Over time, the wear results in warping, which then causes a poor fit between the window and the opening.

Poor workmanship: A faulty window design will shorten the unit’s lifespan. For example, moisture can easily infiltrate the window if weep holes were placed on the sides or top of the frame rather than at the bottom.

Poor installation: If you installed the windows upside-down with the weep holes on the top side, moisture can get inside your window material. Furthermore, if you drilled a hole for your alarm wire in the window, water will easily pass through it when it rains.

How Do You Fix Window Warping?
