Beautiful Bay Window Treatments

Take your replacement bay windows from RBA of central PA to another level with these great treatment ideas:

1.    Silk Panels

Silk panels are a traditional approach to updating the appearance of any bay window. You can make them stylish and contemporary with a braid or fabric tape application inside each of the panels.

2.    Drapery Panels

These panels are best featured on the bay window’s return walls. The goal is for them not to clutter or distract views from the bay but rather to frame it. Hang drapes from the highest point possible to keep them from appearing too short. By elevating the rod so it’s two inches beneath the crown molding, ceilings can be virtually raised in any kind of room.

3.    Contemporary Valances

Treatments that focus on the top of the window, such as a valance, are a great way to make a room appear welcoming and inviting. Designer Dave Stimmel recommends sprucing up formal rooms in the house by using shutters and fabric valances with matching pillows and seat cushions.  In less formal rooms, fixed valances with operating shades are a good idea because they allow for privacy as needed.

4.    Roman Shades

Nothing says functionality and elegance like roman shades.  Flat shades are a good option because they allow for window framing while serving as a rich, vibrant window accent at the same time.

5.    Going Beyond the Bay

Sticking curtains outside of a bay window can be a great way to frame the window, especially for a place such as a breakfast nook. Try going with panels that run ceiling to floor for maximum coverage. This also offers nice duality — when the curtains are open, they frame the windows offering a picturesque view of the outdoors, and when they’re closed, they serve as an eye-catching backdrop for a kitchen table.

No matter what type of window treatment you’re interested in, bay windows offer endless possibilities to revamp your home!
