Environmental Conditions Affecting Mosquito Activity

Mosquitoes are more active in areas near large bodies of water. These pests are a nuisance, so it’s important to prevent them from breeding in your home.

In this post, your leading replacement windows provider, Renewal by Andersen® of Central Pennsylvania, discusses factors that affect mosquito activity.

Environmental Factors

Mosquitoes are not strong flyers so they prefer areas with little to no wind. Conditions that are too cold or warm disrupt mosquito activity. Mild temperatures are most favorable to these insects. Humidity also plays a significant role in mosquito activity. Very humid areas are ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Frequent rainfall creates encourages mosquito activity. A female mosquito can lay eggs on stagnant water that has settled in clogged gutters, birdbaths and potted plants. This will allow the insects to easily enter your home if your windows aren’t properly protected.

Keep Mosquitoes Away From Your Home

Keep mosquitoes away from your home by getting rid of their breeding places. Drain any stagnant water from your yard. Mosquitoes can lay eggs even in the tiniest amount of water. Replace water in pet bowls, bird baths and vases at least once a week. Fortunately, mosquitoes can’t breed in swimming pools because the water has chlorine.

Consider installing insect screens on windows, vents, doors and chimneys. Replace your existing screens if they are damaged.

You can rely on Renewal by Andersen when it comes to quality replacement windows and insect screens. Our TruScene® insect screens provide protection from even the smallest insects without obstructing the view outside. Aside from that, we offer double-hung, custom and casement windows.
