Four Fall Decor Ideas

Photo: CarbonNYC

It’s time to put away the beach-inspired table centerpieces and vases filled with seashells until next summer. ‘Tis the season to embrace the warm, rich colors of autumn. If it’s a struggle to find inspiration at the local craft store, here are four ideas to decorate any space.

Go Nuts

Acorns aren’t just for the woodland creatures outside the kitchen window to collect this time of year. Get in touch with nature, and collect acorns from the backyard or local park.

Fill a tall, thin cylinder with a large pillar candle, and place it inside of a larger cylinder. Fill the space between the two glass vases with acorns to make a festive centerpiece or display for an entryway.

Gourds Are Gorgeous

Farmers markets are full of pumpkins and gourds this time of year. Buy several in varying shapes, colors and sizes to create a unique centerpiece or decoration for above the mantle.

Browse Pinterest for unique decorating ideas, including hammering small decorative nails into a white gourd or painting a pumpkin with chalkboard paint to display messages throughout the season.

Sticks and Stones

Scour the backyard for sticks. Grapevine can be fashioned into a festive fall wreath for the front door. Adorn it with dried flowers or a seasonal bow. Willow and birch branches can also be displayed in colorful vases on the hearth.
Or secure branches around a glass cylinder with rubber bands, and cut the branches so they’re an inch or so longer than the glass. Use raffia or twine bows to cover the bands, and place a candle in the glass to illuminate a space.

Bales of Fun

Hay bales can make for great seating around backyard fire pits. They can also be used to keep buckets of beverages off the ground during fall parties.

Think about stacking hay bales and pumpkins on the porch and adorning columns with corn stalks to make curb appeal a little more seasonally-appropriate. If anything, it will make a great backdrop for photos of the kids in their Halloween costumes.
