It was a sunny, summer afternoon on August 28. While there were a lot of different ways the Renewal by Andersen staff could be spending their Sunday, they chose to again volunteer their time at the Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation’s Harrisburg headquarters to help pack a mountain of toys!
These boxes were filled with new toys, for boys and girls of all ages. And while these toys would surely make any child happy, these particular treasures have a very special purpose. A total of 18 hospitals across the country will receive these toys to give to their child-patients battling cancer. For some, this toy may help to brighten their day when they just received the worst news of their young lives. For others, this toy may be part of a joyful celebration of a birthday they weren’t sure they would live to see.
The Renewal by Andersen staff put a lot of care into their efforts, knowing that these toys could help bring children some joy during a very hard time in their lives. They carefully picked out the toys they thought each gender and age group would enjoy the most and would provide hours of play.
Overall, this was an afternoon well spent! As they say, many hands make light work. The RBA team made it possible to get all of these toys shipped on time and to their final destinations where children anxiously await their arrival. We look forward to continuing our yearlong partnership with CCRF and the many more additional volunteer opportunities we will have to help give children a reason to smile.
Don’t forget that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month! Organizations across the country will be promoting this cause and raising funds to support life-saving research – including Renewal by Andersen! A portion of all RBA sales from the month of September will be donated to Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation so they can continue to impact the lives of so many children fighting this devastating disease.
